Fair Share Plates
“Six cookies, two plates. How many on each?”
Your child shares six cookies so it is fair for Pip and Dot, then shares again when a third friend arrives.
What your child does
- Guess first: Your child says how many cookies each friend should get.
- Test it: They put the cookies on the plates and Rona asks whether everyone has the same.
- Try again: A third friend arrives, and the sharing has to work out a new way.
The problem-solving skill: sharing equally and rethinking a plan
Splitting a group into equal parts, checking that it is fair and finding a new answer when the situation changes.
Try it at home
Share a handful of grapes or crackers between two toys, then add a third toy and share again. Ask your child to guess first, then try it together.
Fair Share Plates is one of the workshops in the Brielle’s World app for iPhone and iPad, which is coming soon to the App Store. You can visit it now on the clay island.
